Socks For Your Active Lifestyle

Socks are a pretty important part of an active lifestyle. I know they’re probably not one of the first things you think of when you think of important tools for an active lifestyle — they may not even make your list at all! — but deep down, when you think about it, you know it’s true. Socks can make a race harder, they can help your insoles and shoes last longer, they can rescue your toes, and they can help you keep your form and focus during a workout. They’re pretty dang important in my book!

I recently received a pair of bright red Tabio socks, and I was excited to give them a try.  I love socks! I am not a fan of feet (if you know me well, you know about my disdain for feet), so anything to cover them up gets an automatic thumbs up from me! But! I’m also a person whose feet are either freezing, or clammy (so gross, I know). There’s no in between! Usually, they’re freezing, but if I’m getting a good workout in, they’re sometimes the only thing on me that’s sweating! (I’ve never been very sweaty. That’s a story for another day, though.)

I’m very picky with my socks. Bad socks have ruined workouts for me, and good socks have helped make them! I have specific socks I will only wear for volleyball, and most of my other active socks can be worn for any activity (with the exception of my full length compression socks. Those are no fun for volleyball.). When I get a new pair of what I’ll call fitness socks, I put them through the ringer. These Tabio socks were no different. I did at-home workouts without sneakers, wore them on walks, tried them out inside my cycling shoes. I really put them to the test! So what did I find?

Some quick specs for you before I tell you how it went:

  • I tested out the Signature Run socks. 
  • These socks are made in Japan, but they’re finally launching in the US. They’re really popular in Japan (do a quick search on Instagram for Tabio and you’ll see what I’m talking about!)
  • The red color is so fun!
  • They have some compression in them, and they have grips on the bottom.
  • I didn’t do much running in them because it has been very cold both here in Maryland and in Ohio — the two places where I tested them out.
  • They are marked for your left and right feet. 
Now on to the part you’ve been waiting for: What did I think?
I love these socks! It is so hard for me to find socks that will stay put during indoor cycling class — and I know that’s not what these were made for, but they’re great! — and these did the trick! My feet didn’t get all clammy and gross, and I wasn’t sliding around in my socks and getting distracted during class. 
When I did an at-home workout in my future sister-in-law’s basement, I was able to get in a tough Tabata workout without any shoes with no problem. Again, the Tabio socks did the trick, y’all! 
For walking and running, they work brilliantly. They’re comfortable with just the right amount of cushion and compression, and they won’t squeeze your ankles like some socks tend to do. 
All in all, these are some pretty awesome sock, and I’m hoping to purchase some more since they’re so good! 
What do you look for in good fitness socks? Do you wear different socks for different activities? Does it drive you crazy if your socks roll up into your shoe while you’re running/workout out? It definitely drives me bonkers! These don’t do that.
