Race Preview: Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon
Disclaimer: I received a free entry to the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!
Let me start by revealing what may have already been obvious at this point:
I AM A BIBRAVE PRO! WOOHOO! What does that mean? Find out here.
As you know, I have reviewed quite a few races here on Flecks of Lex. I have run even more than I have recapped, but one of my running resolutions for 2016 is to get better about that, which I am! What’s great about BibRave is that I can write much shorter reviews there, which means that I can get them posted quicker, and that I can also use them as a guide to write an extensive post for my race recap when the time comes.
One of the things that I really enjoy about BibRave is that I can read reviews of different races that I’m considering running. For example, there are already reviews up for the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon, which I’ll be running on Saturday, June 4. (Use the code BIBRAVE10 to take $10 off on race registration.) Thanks to the reviews that have already been posted to the site, I know that I will be encountering different types of surfaces during my race. I also was happy to learn that this would not be a hilly race, which I really appreciate.
I’ve never run with Destination Races, but when I saw that there would be wine tastings after the race, I was eager to sign up! There is also a two-runner relay option for this race, which is great for those of you who are comfortable with a 10k but not necessarily a half marathon. What else is great? There’s a wine festival after the race! I’ll be attending the wine festival (my first ever!), and I’m praying for good weather. I’m going to treat this race as a mini racecation, as my boyfriend and I are planning to get a hotel for Friday night, that way we don’t have a crazy drive in the morning. After learning how much easier this can make a race morning, I thought, why not? He’s going to join me for the wine festival as my eating buddy and designated driver (he doesn’t drink wine, but I love him anyway).
I’ll be running this race with two fellow BibRave Pros: Katie from Adventures by Katie and Amy from Marathon Mom. I’ll be rocking my brand new racing tank from BibRave, in what is becoming my favorite workout color for this season: orange! If you see me out on the course, be sure to send a wave my way!
Training for this race has been a bit of a challenge so far. I have this nagging ankle injury that has been bothering me since the Frederick Half. The pain started in the side of my foot, but now it has mostly moved to the area surrounding where my ankle bone and foot meet. I’ve been doing all types of rehab on it, and have taken it easy with running the last week and a half. I’ve been using the row machine as cardio, as well as walking on the treadmill instead of running, and my ankle is feeling a lot better today than it did this time last week. Fingers crossed that everything will be running smoothly on Saturday!
Have you ever run a Destination Races race? If so, where? Have you ever run the Wine Country Half? Have you ever attended a wine festival?
Congrats on being a BibRave Pro! How cool is that?! This race also sounds awesome. Adding it to my list!

This race always seems to be on the same weekend as the Reston Sprint so I have not done it yet. Hope the weather holds out for both of us!

This sounds like so much fun! I haven't run with Destination Races, but I am all about the wine. Enjoy!
I hope you figure out what's going on with your foot/ankle. Injuries are miserable.

The race sounds like it is going to be an absolute blast! Hope your ankle feels better before Sat- it's not fun to have to run with an injury!

Good to hear that the race won't be too hilly – that area can be super hilly depending on exactly where the course goes. Have fun!

Don't scare me!!!! :-O
Ugh, I know! Especially when it's nagging me with both sports! Fortunately it's been feeling good the last few days, so I hope it holds up for the race!

There are so many races in the area that day! I was going to run the Baltimore 10 Miler, but now I'm running this one instead. Good luck with your race!

Thanks! Crossing my fingers and toes (that counts as rehabbing it, right?).
Stay tuned, my friend!
