A few days after running my last half marathon of the year, it seems appropriate that I start planning out my half marathons for next year, right?

I am so excited, you guys! It looks like I’m kicking off my 2017 race calendar in Key West, Florida! That’s right! I’m running the 2017 Key West Half Marathon! I will definitely be looking forward to some fun in the sun while we’re in the dead of winter here in Maryland. Even more exciting: I’ll be running the race with one of my favorite people! I’m planning to fly down to West Palm Beach, meet up with my roommate/teammate from college, drive down to South Beach to meet up with my best friend, and then all three of us head down to Key West! My college roommate/teammate, Jade, will be running the race with me, if I can convince her to run the half! She’s never run a half marathon before, or anything longer than a 5k, but I’m trying to talk her into tacking on more miles each week. She actually runs more in a week than I do!

We have all sorts of things to plan out before the race, including deciding how many days we’ll stay, and what we’ll do in case it storms the morning of the race (I read some race reviews that there have been some storms on race day in the past). I really hope it doesn’t storm because this sounds like such an incredible race! Runner’s World actually considers this a bucket list destination race, and I’ve heard about the awesome wine topper race medals they give out at the race (in addition to some pretty cute race shirts).

While I wait for January, I’ll just keep thinking of the warm weather and the sound of the ocean.
