Caraway Dutch Oven in Peracotta

About My New Dutch Oven from Caraway

Let me tell you about my Dutch oven.

I received this Dutch oven from the brand Caraway. It’s a ceramic-coated pan that is seriously wicked easy to clean. Additionally, the coating makes it so that you actually don’t need to use as much oil when you’re sauteing because it’s harder for items to stick to the bottom of the pan.

About This Recipe

Fun fact: I didn’t care much for mushrooms until after I graduated from college. I think it’s the funky odor and the texture that always turned me off to mushrooms, but now that I know how to prepare them (or order them), I love them! They can really help enhance a dish or be a great substitute for meat if cooked properly. I also learned that there are like half a bajillion different types of mushrooms that you can buy at the store and farmer’s market, so the possibilities of how to prepare mushrooms are truly endless.
If there’s a bit too much mushroom action happening in this recipe, you can always make some changes to the quantity of mushrooms.
The turkey comes out so juicy and tender! Further, the sauce from this dish is great as a gravy for the turkey itself as well as any starch you might choose as an accompaniment to this dish.
There aren’t really any special techniques involved with this dish, which is what makes it such an easy dish to make! It’s a lot harder to dry out your turkey meat when it’s sitting in all the juicy deliciousness, but also when you’re using a Dutch oven.

Dutch Oven Braised Turkey Breast with Mushrooms

Prep Time: 5 Minutes

Cook Time: 1.5 hours

Ingredients:

  • 1.5lbs boneless turkey breast
  • 2 Tbsp EVOO
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 3 large portobello mushroom caps, sliced
  • 1 cup white cooking wine
  • 5 medium raw garlic cloves, sliced
  • 1/2 medium white onion, diced
  • 3 strips uncured turkey bacon
  • 1 cup carrots, chopped
  • Spices to taste: salt, pepper, Trader Joe’s Umami Seasoning, cayenne pepper, thyme, oregano, paprika, and rosemary

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  2. (Stovetop) In a Dutch oven, heat EVOO. Add all 3 strips of turkey bacon to the pan. Cook until crispy. Remove turkey bacon from pan.
  3. Add onion, garlic, and mushrooms to the pan. While these items sautee, chop the turkey bacon. Sautee until onions become translucent.
  4. Sprinkle each spice/seasoning over both sides of the turkey breast (about a pinch of each seasoning per turkey breast side, or to your desired amount).
  5. Add turkey breast to the pan and brown on each side. Add 1 cup of white cooking wine and bring to a summer. Add carrots and turkey bacon. Stir in cream of mushroom soup.
  6. Turn off the stove and place the lid on your Dutch oven. Place the pan in your preheated oven. Cook until the turkey breast is cooked all the way through (30-45 minutes, depending on the thickness of your turkey breast).
  7. Remove from oven. Enjoy!
