In past years, I hadn’t been super excited to find a new swimsuit. I wasn’t a strong swimmer, and I have been self conscious about wearing swimsuits for the majority of my life. This year is different. This year, I’m ready to hit the beach (and the pool deck) with confidence! I’ve been working hard to lose weight, tone, and get stronger. I haven’t reached my goal yet, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. (I even built up the courage to take a bikini photo!)
I wasn’t a curvy teenager, but I’m definitely a curvy adult, which makes swimsuit shopping a bit of a challenge. I have to buy tops and bottoms separately, and one or the other has typically been a bit off with sizing. To make matters worse, I’d never been able to find an affordable swimsuit that has bra cup sizing and separates.
That’s when Figleaves flew in to save the day!
What is Figleaves?
Figleaves.com is a UK-based site that offers over 200 designers of swimwear, lingerie, sleepwear and more from popular designers and brands such as Elle McPherson (I know!), Midnight Grace, Under Armour, Armani, and of course the Figleaves label. They even carry men’s items, which is pretty cool if you know a dude in need of new trunks or sports apparel.
For swimsuit tops, Figleaves carries AA-GG cup sizes, which is incredibly hard to come by. They also carry different style tops and bottoms, so you can find a suit that flatters your body shape. This is key, because it seems that so many different stores tend to neglect the fact that women come in so many different shapes and sizes.
I chose the Congo Bikini set for my first Figleaves suit. It really stood out for me, because it has such a fun print, and a flattering cut. I was really happy that I could select a cup-sized bikini top, as well as separate bottoms. When you’re shopping online at Figleaves, make sure that you keep in mind that they use European sizing. Be sure to check out their fitting room and sizing guide before making a final selection. I, of course, forgot that they would arrive in European sizing, so when I saw the size on the bottoms I received, I was so confused and disappointed. Then I remembered that they aren’t US sizes, and said, “duh.”
When the suit arrived, I was super excited to try it on. Why wouldn’t I be? Just look at it! It’s so fun! Now, I don’t know about you, but I have a tendency to size up with my bottoms. I never have any idea what size bottom I wear, plus I have a sizable rear end. When I finally tried on my suit, I realized that I got a bottom that was a size too big. This was good news for me, because it means that I am smaller than I thought; however, that obviously wouldn’t work out well once it got wet. I’m going to exchange the bottom I received with the next size down, and then I’ll feel extra fierce and fabulous.
I’m so excited to do some more shopping on Figleaves. I’m especially excited about their selection of sports swimwear. Remember when I was complaining that athletic swimwear is just so boring? Well, now I think I have a cure for it! I have my eyes on this one, which is giving me Bond Babe realness. These suits are so chic!
