Beauty Time Out: Buffy Body Butter

One of my favorite things to do after a long week of brutal workouts, rush hour traffic, and work is to pamper myself. A little TLC does the mind and body good!

In this newest segment on Flecks of Lex, I will recommend various products I use/have used.

One of my favorite “got stopped by an aggressive salesperson, but I ended up liking the product after all” items is the Buffy Body Butter by LUSH (affilliate link). The concept is pretty interesting: You take a shower, rub yourself down with the body butter, rinse the body butter off your body, then pat yourself dry. The body butter is actually moisturizing lotion!

What’s It Made Of?

When I first tested the Buffy Body Butter, my salesperson literally ate some of it. It was kind of weird, and creeped me out a little bit. She told me about how the bars are made of rice, beans, and almonds, and though that was slightly less creepy, it was still… I dunno? Wrong? Aren’t you only supposed to eat soap if your mom catches you cursing at your little brother? I digress…

Cool, But Does it Work?
I have extremely sensitive skin, and this product works wonders on it — especially when it starts getting cooler outside like it is now. It can be a little challenging to cope with the coarseness of the bar when you first use it, but you get used to it. Plus, the outcome is most definitely worth it. Though the drier parts of my skin don’t absorb Buffy as well as others, it still lasts and leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturized.
Size and Availability
The bars can be found at Lush stores and online. I’ve purchased the 3.3 and 7.0 oz bars, and I can say that I prefer the 3.3 bars (which will cost you $12). When I bought the larger bar, I was told that it would be easy for me to cut it at home, and I found that to be next to impossible. In fact, after my sixth shred of soap chipped off the block, I decided to stick to using the entire bar at once. Unless you can convince them to cut the 7.0 oz in half, I recommend sticking to the smaller size.
PSA
An important thing that I can not emphasize enough about Buffy is to make sure you rinse your shower out very well. If you don’t, you’re going to get a slippery tub, which is not only unpleasant, but also dangerous.
Should I Try it Out?
I highly recommend this little miracle bar for the cooler fall weather. It doesn’t really smell like anything, which is great for folks who have sensitivity to perfumed lotions, and it actually works. Stop by your nearest Lush and see if they can let you try it out!
