Social Distancing: Day 1

Today was the first day that I was required to telework and break from my regular routine. I’m such an extrovert, and I’m always on the go, so staying put in my apartment was not ideal. Nonetheless, I completely understand why!

Most of my day was filled with me sitting at my laptop and working. I had an office conference call in the morning, but for the most part, my day was pretty uneventful. I suppose my greatest excitement came from trying to figure out if the gym where I was supposed to sub for indoor cycling this evening was going to hold classes.

It’s interesting being in the DC Metro Area (the DMV) because a decision made in Maryland may or may not impact your activities in DC or Virginia. For example, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan required all gyms to close after 5:00 p.m. today, but DC Mayor Muriel Bowser did not require the closing of all gyms. (To be honest, I have no idea what they are doing in Virginia. Did they close gyms? They had a second COVID-19-related death today!)

Okay, so back to the subbing. So, my gym was closing at 5, per the Governor’s strict orders. Makes sense. But DC didn’t close gyms, so it was unclear whether I was going to have to teach. Right as I was getting ready to call the gym to find out if classes were still on (I was going to have to leave about 45 minutes afterward to head there), I heard from the group exercise director that classes were canceled. Welp. There was my fitness plan for the day! It was smart of them to close, don’t get me wrong, but then I sat there at the end of the workday trying to figure out what I was going to do instead. I got dressed for a run, recorded an IGTV video, and… did not end up going for the run. Dang it!

Here’s the IGTV video though:

Tomorrow, I will actually work out. I have no excuse. I can start with a workout in the morning, maybe get in some mid-day fitness around what would normally be my lunch hour, and then something in the evening. Why not?

I did, however, cook a delicious and healthy meal for my fiance and me. Poor guy is stuck with me for the next couple of weeks, so it’s really the least I could do. I adhered to my March goal of getting enough vegetables today, mostly at dinner through a ton of Brussels sprouts. We watched some Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Wire (for balance), and now I’m sitting here recapping my day to all of you.

Here’s hoping tomorrow provides some additional entertainment and more fitness!

How are you all spending your time at home this week? Were you able to get some fresh air?
