Twerkout Workout: 305 Fitness Review

I finally got to try 305 Fitness, y’all! A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to a special DC-area influencer event hosted by 305 Fitness. (Hat tip to Fitt for the flagging this event for me!) My friend Tikima (the other half of DMV Fitness Fam) joined me while we got our twerk on!

What is 305 Fitness? It’s a cardio dance workout with a little bit of weight training. (That last part was a welcome surprise! More on that below.) 305 Fitness says, “this is an addictive cardio party.” They’re right; you feel like you’re in a night club, and the vibe is sweaty, judgment-free, twerk-filled fun!

The studio is conveniently located just a few blocks from the U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metro Station. I feel like DC changes at the blink of an eye, so I didn’t even recognize the block it was on at first.

The studio is down a short, adorable, well-lit alley. There are a couple of little shops along the walk, and there’s a La Colombe coffee right across the alley. Très chic.

When you walk into the studio, you are greeted with bright colors and fun decor. It definitely gives off Miami vibes with all the bright/loud colors! There are empowering phrases and images all over the place, which gets you in the mindset to let your freak flag fly with reckless abandon. Twerk to your heart’s desire, queen!

There were only two letdowns for me, and the main one was the bathroom. When I first arrived, I needed to change from my work clothes to my twerk clothes. I went into the bathroom and.. AY! Wet floor 🙁 and it was so hot and clammy in there (more on that in a moment*). The issue is that they have back-to-back-to-back classes, so someone might be showering as you’re getting ready for your class, which was the case when I went into the bathroom. Which leads to the second problem I had: Space!

There was not much space for changing. If you take a workout at 305 Fitness, I highly recommend changing into your workout clothes prior to your arrival. It wouldn’t stop me from working out there again, but it’s definitely something you should know. Less is more as far as what you should bring to a 305 Fitness class!

What do you need? Mainly just shoes you can dance in and a water bottle (maybe even two!). I saw some sassy outfits on both men and women in my class, so I think bold clothing is encouraged! Some people were in sports bras and bottoms, some had on graphic print crop tops, and some people had on bright colors and funky prints. I would encourage you to wear something fun that maybe you don’t get to pull out of your closet very often, or maybe you’re a little self-conscious about it. Go big or go home!

If you’re sensitive to loud music, get yourself some earplugs. It’s definitely not quiet in there! It feels like a house party, so make sure you’re prepared! Speaking of house parties, there’s a live DJ in the class, and they have a cadre of DJs to keep things fresh. I think that only pumps up the fun level! It also tells you that each class is going to be different.

So, what’s the deal with the workout? When you head into the room, you grab a towel and find a spot on the floor. There are actual dots on the floor to make this easier, which is pretty cool. For our class, there were 305 Fitness instructors sprinkled throughout the room. We were directed to keep an eye on the instructor in our area of the room in case we got confused.

Pro tip: Unless you’re right in the middle of the room, you WILL be in the front of the room at some point, so don’t think you can hide in the back!

We didn’t just twerk during our 305 Fitness workout; we did a lot of different moves, and even grabbed a couple of weights and pumped some iron! I was actually surprised when we started with the weights. This was probably the first time I’ve ever done a dance cardio workout where there have been weights involved! Nonetheless, I probably should have read the FAQs before class, because then I would’ve known about the mid-class sculpting session. Smh. Any-who, there is a mid-class sculpt, and the class ends with more dancing, a cool down, and short stretching segment.

In true form, I had a few awkward moments at 305. [facepalm]

Awkward moment #1: I see London, I see France.*
Thank goodness for Tikima, because I would’ve had another night of wardrobe malfunctions otherwise. I don’t know why I do this, but sometimes…::sigh:: I pull up my drawers when I think I’m pulling up my leggings. Because it was so hot and clammy in that bathroom, I felt like my leggings were super glued to my legs. I felt like I had to pull so hard to get my pants to come up in order to avoid mooning everyone. Unfortunately, I pulled up the wrong thing. Yikes! When I came out of the bathroom, Tikima lightly roasted me and informed me that my drawers were hanging out. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Whoops.

Awkward moment #2: when I thought everyone was gigantic all of a sudden
Like I mentioned earlier, there are back-to-back-to-back classes, so you have to quickly transition out of class before the next class comes in. I was not paying attention, however, and didn’t notice that there was a new class. At one point, I looked up, and there were tall people all around me. Was everyone this tall the whole class? I thought. Tikima told me that a new class was coming in and that we needed to bounce, and that’s when I realized that all of these people were not in my previous class. Smh again.

After class, we received swag bags from the 305 Fitness team. This was actually a really good swag bag! I haven’t tried everything out yet, but I’m excited to try them out! The two things I’m most interested in are the rose gold eye masks and the razor. Stay tuned!

I would definitely visit 305 Fitness again. The workout was a lot of fun, I burned a lot of calories, and it pushed me out of my comfort zone. You guys know that I’m always down to try a new workout, so I’m really glad I got to try this one out!

Have you tried a new workout recently? What are your favorite items to receive in a swag bag?
