Do You Wear Lifting Gloves?

More important question: Do you even lift, bro? Just kidding!

I love to wear gloves when I lift, for a number of reasons. For starters, they protect your hands from getting gnarly blisters. With my line of work, I have to shake a lot of hands. There is nothing worse than shaking a disgusting hand, whether that hand is slimy, ashy, crackly… you name it! (This is the main reason why I carry hand sanitizer when I have work events.) Another great benefit of wearing lifting gloves is that they provide you with some padding when you’re lifting. Have you ever lifted a heavy amount, or done a difficult move, where it feels like someone is punching you in the palm of your hand? No? Maybe you should try doing a few sets of these, because you will totally understand.
At one point, I lost my old, raggedy lifting gloves. I eventually found them, but I’d already replaced them with a better pair.

As I’ve mentioned before, I have no problem doing discount shopping when it comes to, well, anything. I have a Marshalls in my neighborhood, and they always have amazing deals on designer fitness gear and accessories. I just knew they would have lifting gloves, and sure enough, I was right!

I found this pair of Nike Womens Fundamental Training Gloves II at Marshalls about two months ago. These gloves are thinner than my last pair, but they still have plenty of cushioning in the palms via the faux suede that covers this area. What I like about this pair is that they have moisture wicking, because I know that my hands can get clammy, and that’s the last thing you want when you are holding a heavy bar over your head. Mesh detailing is a must for my lifting gloves, and these do not disappoint.

They were $9.99! I mean, come on! Granted, they only retail for $15 at Dick’s Sporting Goods, but it’s still a good deal for lifting gloves. The Nike Pro Elevate Training Gloves are fancier, with synthetic leather, and those retail for $30, so this was obviously a good deal for a cheapo like me.

I like the fact that these are black, as they really match any outfit. I like fun lifting gloves, but I also like to look like I mean business when I’m grunting and snarling my way through a workout. Nothing says, “whoa dude! She lifts, bro!” like walking into the gym with a colorful, girly outfit, and then throwing these bad boys on in dramatic fashion. What, you don’t do that? 🙂

Do you wear gloves when you lift? If not, why not? If so, why do you like to wear lifting gloves? Do you even lift, bro?

  1. I cant lift without them! I hate when I don't have them and the blisters start to form. They definitely give you better grip on the bars too. Chris, after years of football lifting, has naturally built up the skin on his hands. So glove up and lift something heavy!!!!!
