Happy Birthday…To Me!
Okay, just had to get that out of my system. Yes, it’s my birthday, and yes, despite it falling on a weekday this year, I enjoyed it tremendously. But… I’m not done celebrating.
I got a little bit of celebrating out of my system over the weekend, but it was pretty mild. I’m still coming off of my January Whole 30 and continuing to be pretty deliberate with what I’m putting into my body, so I didn’t throw any ragers or anything over the weekend. Instead, I enjoyed a nice Saturday brunch with my friend Judy, got CPR certified so that I can round out all of my indoor cycling instructor requirements, and had breakfast for dinner on Friday night. I also got in some good two-a-day workouts on Gixo, in addition to a rough PT session.
You know what’s funny? For some people, after the Whole 30, all they want is to drink. Me? I just wanted some cheese! Now that I’m a couple of weeks out, I got to thinking over the last week: Maybe I should have a drink? I had a very stressful couple of weeks, and I just wanted to kick my feet back and unwind without feeling guilt.
How many calories are in an alcoholic beverage is not something I’ve ever worried much about, but since I’ve still been pretty good about watching my intake and serving sizes since January 1, it’s something I’m definitely more aware about now. I want all of my hard work in the gym AND in my at-home workouts to pay off!
What’s a good light beer that doesn’t taste watered down, and has fewer than 100 calories? Michelob ULTRA! To be honest, I’d never actually tried this beer before, but I really like it now! Yes, on occasion I drink beer, and I usually prefer something on the hoppier side, but I can really get down with this beer! I don’t have to feel guilty about it because of the low calories (95) and low carbs (2.6), and I don’t have to wash it down with anything else because it has great flavor!
Want to know something random I had with it? BREAKFAST FOR DINNER. This past Friday, because I’m an adult and can do what I want (mostly), I just wanted pancakes for dinner. So… I made myself some pancakes! I had pancakes, chicken sausage, a Michelob ULTRA, and a few episodes of Scandal since I was so behind. And you know what? I didn’t feel bad about it at all! One of my goals this year is to make sure that, while I work on my physical health and weight loss goals, I need to take time out for my mental health and peace of mind every once in a while. “Treat yo self,” if you will.
My goal post-birthday is to mix up my fitness routine a little bit, and to try a new workout. There are a bunch of places I’ve been researching, and I need to just suck it up and pick one already! I love new fitness experiences, and recommend them to friends when they’re looking to get out of a slump, or are feeling bored with their current workout routine.
