How I Spent Global Running Day

Hello friends! It has been a while since I last posted here, hasn’t it? Sorry to have neglected you guys! Things have been busy on my end with my move, work, and getting my butt in shape! I’ve been posting on Twitter and Instagram, so if you follow me there, you won’t miss anything!

As part of my “getting my butt in shape” plan, I’ve been getting in a bunch of two-a-days over the last couple of weeks. One cool thing that I’ve been doing is taking Pilates at lunchtime at work (it’s free as part of our health insurance), and I’m definitely starting to notice a difference with my core strength! I hadn’t done Pilates in a looong time, so I forgot that I actually liked it!

One thing that makes two-a-days tough is making sure that I have enough fuel to last for the entire day. For me, that means making sure that I get enough protein between lunch and dinner, otherwise I’ll get light headed or get headaches, and be too weak to be able to put in a second workout — especially if I’m taking a cycling class or going for a run after work!

I’ve been trying out these Quest Hero Bars which are, quite frankly, way too delicious! I’d never heard of the Hero Bars before, but saw that Gabby Douglas was a spokesperson for them, and knew they had to be good. She is a tremendous athlete!

The Hero Bars come in some delicious flavors, but my favorite is the chocolate caramel pecan flavor. YUM! It tastes like a candy bar, but it has the 15g of protein that I need to power through two workouts! Yesterday was Global Running Day, and I knew that it was going to be a long day because I had to drive to Baltimore after work for a great rooftop yoga practice with my best friend Jean, and then drive all the way back home and squeeze in a run before bed. BUT I DID IT! And I tell ya, if it wasn’t for fuel like the Hero Bars, it definitely would not have been possible, and I wouldn’t have gotten in my run!

Tomorrow I am going to try to go for a short run in the morning, then I’m speaking at career day at a local elementary school, followed by a drive back across town to work, then a meeting for all of the Wellness Champions in our company, then I have my first Cyclebar experience, and… I’m getting tired just thinking of all of this! I’ll pack a Hero Bar in my bag for tomorrow, and snack on it sometime between that Wellness Champion meeting and Cyclebar.

If you’re interested in trying out the Hero Bars, I picked mine up at The Vitamin Shoppe, so you should be able to find them there with the other Quest Bars.

How do you keep your fuel levels up when you have a lot of activity planned for one day? Do you snack during the day? Do you ever get light headed when you don’t get enough food?
